Update on Katie – GOOD NEWS!

It’s been a while since I’ve updated you on Katie’s progress.  There is some GOOD NEWS to share!  I am re-posting the update from Katie’s blog here:

Two weeks ago they discovered that Katie’s port was inflamed, red, and irritated. This was cause for great alarm becasue of how the chemo tends to weaken the immune system. The concern was that the port had gotten infected. The doctors decided, after speaking to the Stanford team, that they would pump Katie full of super strong antibiotics and see if they could get the situation under control. If they couldn’t they were going to have to remove the port and Katie would have to start getting poked and prodded all over again.  While they were administering the first round of Antibiotics (supposed to be a 2 hour process for a couple days in a row) Katie started experiencing what is known as “Red Man Syndrome”. This basically means, her face turned red, she got really HOT and started having an allergic reaction to the antibiotics.  They had to turn the process into a 4 hour process each day for several days…which was kind of intense. Katie will remain on oral antibiotics until she returns to Stanford.

BUT HERE’S THE GOOD NEWS…

There is NO INFECTION IN KATIE’S PORT!!!! YAY!

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anthing worthy of praise, THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS.” (Phil. 4:8)

 And more good news:

    1. Every blood draw Katie has had in the past two weeks says that Katies platelet count looks GREAT!!
    2. Katies weight looks really GOOD!!
    3. Her Port is HEALING!!
    4. Her breathing is even BETTER!!
    5. She is not getting sick from the Chemo!!

PRAYER POINTS:

  • PRAY! No infection in Katie’s body…ANYWHERE!
  • The insurance battle is more daunting than worth outlining in detail but we need breakthrough and Jesus’ intervention desperately in this area! Please continue to pray!

Lastly, I wanted to share this beautiful picture of Katie with you, after her head was shaved.  She was going to lose her hair due to the chemo, so she decided this was a good step.  Her mama supported her by cutting her very long hair, and they both donated their hair to Locks of Love, which provides children under the age of 18 with wigs who suffer hair loss due to medical conditions.

Isn’t Katie stunning?

Please keep praying!  Your prayers are so appreciated!
