Inspired Blogger: {Tereasa @ His Pen on My Heart}

Today I am thrilled to introduce Tereasa of His Pen on My Heart as my Inspired Blogger for the month of July.  I found Tereasa from the 5 Minute Friday link up.  I remember how my heart was comforted and drawn closer to the Lord as I read the words that graced her page.  I knew she was authentic and a lover of Jesus.

I know you are going to love her just as much as I do!

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

When people ask where I’m from, I tell them this world is not my home, but I was born in Texas and raised in New Mexico. I married a Canadian and became a citizen of his country six years ago. Much of my life is influenced by my southwestern roots, but my heart is very at home in the Canadian winters.

I am the wife of a down to earth and fun loving Christian man. I am the mother of three children, one through the miracle of birth and two through the blessing of adoption. We are a tight-knit crew. We love spending time outdoors whether it’s taking walks in the bush, relaxing at the beach or playing sports at the park. The times I treasure most are when we worship God as a family or share meaningful conversations before bedtime.

I used to have a lot of hobbies, such as scrapbooking, crochet, and other crafts. Fibromyalgia has captured my hands and made many of those things difficult now. The hobbies I have always had and will fight to never lose are reading and writing. Writing is especially important as it serves as intimacy with God and a ministry to others. Through writing, I find clarity in a fallen world and hope to inspire others.

How long have you been blogging and how/why did you start?

I started blogging six years ago to recount our first adoption and journal the process of our second. I found a community of supportive adoption bloggers and several meaningful friendships. Time passed and we each became more comfortable (or busy) in our new lives. The online community I had entered became smaller as fewer women felt the need or had the time for blogging. In the end, only two remain.

About the same time my online circle was becoming smaller, we moved to be part of a young church led by a long-time friend. Much heartache and abuse was suffered in our new home. At the same time, there was much joy and love. Our hearts were torn for over a year until things came to a head and we realized the church we loved had become a cult.

While we were there, my thoughts and time were consumed by things in the church. I lost interest in blogging and stopped for a long time. I attempted to blog again, but felt guilty because of teachings against using our talents for anything other than the church. Once we left, I was excited to write with freedom and began blogging about our time in the cult. It was too soon, though, and I had to stop again.

Early this year, I finally felt it was time. The drive to write was strong and my husband encouraged me to pursue my God given gifts. Blogging was the natural platform. I didn’t begin my newest blog with the intention of sharing my story. I thought I was past that.  I intended to share the joy of living in Christ as well as the joys of motherhood. God had something else in mind.

What is the purpose of your blog?

Contrary to my plans, I began to feel a longing to tell my story. I did not want to rehash all the details or bring dishonor to old friends, but bring glory to God. I wanted to share the power of Christ to free the captives and heal the brokenhearted. With great trembling, I opened up that chapter of my life for all to read. Through it, God not only brought further healing but opened a brand new ministry.

What do you most enjoy about blogging?

I love meeting with the body of Christ all over the world, finding new friends and hearing their stories of grace. I treasure the honor of hearing from others who have suffered abuse and the opportunity to offer hope.

What are you passionate about?

It was when I discovered my passion that I knew what I should blog about. Another blogger (I forget who now) said that to discover your passion you should pay attention to what makes you cry. Hearing about people who have lost their faith in God because of abusive religious systems makes me cry. When I write about spiritual abuse or freedom in Christ, my heart is set ablaze.

Who or what inspires you?

I am inspired by others who have overcome abuse and found deeper relationship with Christ. I am also inspired by those who continue to suffer. I write for them.

Tell us something random about yourself.

I’m a noisy blogger. I sigh and groan while I write. I even laugh. This is a little embarrassing when I’m at the library and I get drawn into the world of words. I have had people get up and move to the other side of the room to get away from me. Today, a young man was laughing next to me and I’m sure I must have done something to cause it.

Will you share with us one of your favorite posts and what you love about it?

Thought Detox  explains one of the tools by which I have been able to de-tangle the mess of lies left in my head by the cult. It was originally written in Blogger and then moved to WordPress, so the formatting is off and the space between lines is gone. The message remains.  After reading the comments, I realized the need to address our thoughts further. I am currently working on an ebook based on this post.
