Five Minute Friday: Join

Today I am joining Lisa-Jo and others for the 5 Minute Friday where we are given a word prompt and write for just 5 minutes simply for the joy of writing. No editing or backtracking necessary. No need to be perfect. Just words freely flowing from my heart to yours.

As a teenager, I strived to belong, so I would continually join groups in search of love and acceptance.  When I was in high school, I joined the track team, the Latino Club, the Yearbook group and the Senior trip planners, all in an effort to belong.

In 2008, I joined another group of individuals, women of all ages and from all a walks of life, with one common purpose — to write to encourage the hearts of other women.  I joined Blogger back them and starting writing in white space when I thought no one was reading.  I remember the day I received my first follower, and my first comment.  I thought I had arrived.

Several months ago, I stumbled upon Lisa-Jo’s blog.  Another blogger had posted about a 5 minute writing exercise and asked if we would join her.  I headed over but was hesitant to join in.  As I browsed the list of bloggers who had already joined, I was a little intimated.  But the words that these women wrote touched my heart deeply.  I was compelled to join in, and now I’m hooked.  I’ve joined for life and no one can keep me away.

Here we are, a community of women, all linking up to share our heart on just one word.  I never thought I would find so much love and acceptance from a 5 minute writing exercise.  These women have become some of my closest blogging friends.  I am so thankful I joined in.

Will you join me for the 5 Minute Friday?  It’s not scary, I promise.  Just one write, for just 5 minutes, and you will be hooked.

you’re right Barbie! one write and I was HOOKED! Hooked on the idea that I wasn’t alone in wanting to share my excitement about what the Lord had done and was continuing to do in my life. I was hooked on the idea that I could learn from other women who loved the Lord too. Women who wanted much more than to share a public diary but women who wanted to pour hope and encouragement into someone like me…it’s really UNBELIEVABLE!

  13. This is my first week and I have to say, what a wonderful group of women. I didn’t know what to expect. You are inspiring.

  15. Oh yes, I am so blessed by this community and your part in it, Barbie. And to meet all of the newcomers and welcome them as well. It’s such a blessing to be a part of and to see how we all bring something to the table with just one word prompt. To see how God is moving in the midst of all these bloggers hearts. Blessed by you.

I’m so thankful you joined in, too, Barbie! And I have to smile at the thought of you being intimidated…I know I’ve share how long it took me to comment on your blog! 😉 Hugs to you, friend!

I understand your initial intimidation, Barbie. I was the same way. There’s so many great writers in this community, but what’s so beautiful is that there isn’t this sense of competition, but support! I love that we lift each other up and spur each other on. And you’ve been such a support to me. Thank you!

That’s so true Jacqui. I am realizing that there is only one you, only one me, only one Pioneer Woman or Lisa-Jo, but we are each unique in our own calling. I love this community! So thankful I found your blog. You are a gem!

I’m so glad you joined the blogging world. I’m amazed at how quickly you have navigated this world. I started blogging in 2007. However, my purpose for blogging has changed much in that time. I started off as an experiment to help my husband in his internet venture. Who knew it would become a ministry for me? I am so thankful you joined in Barbie and that I got to meet you in person.

    Blessings and love,
    Debbie

Oh me too friend. I hope we will get to meet up again in real life one day. It’s so true about blogging. I love the connections I’ve made and I truly see it as a ministry from the Lord. Something I treasure. Praying He will continue to use both of us to encourage the hearts of women!

  21. and your blog is beautiful and that is true connection 🙂 thank you for joining 🙂
