Dear Me….{A Letter To My Teen Self}

Dear Teen Me,

Do you know how very much you are loved?  I know you feel lost, alone and confused. Oh how your heart is broken, yearning to be filled.  There is only One who can fill that void. You haven’t met Him yet, but I know you’ve heard His voice. You lay awake in bed at night and reach for the old Bible in your nightstand drawer.  I know you don’t fully comprehend what you are reading, but then you pray “in Jesus’ Name”.  He is the One who put that desire for His Word deep inside of your heart.

Oh how He loves you!

Throughout all of the pain and heartache you’ve endured at such a young age, He has always been there, walking right beside you.  When guilt and shame overwhelm you at night, He is there.  Do you know that He catches every tear you cry and puts it in a bottle?

You fight hard to belong, to be someone’s prize possession.  But please understand that you are no man’s possession.  Those men in your life, they are liars.  They do not want His best for you.  They have manipulated you into giving yourself away — spirit, soul and body.

But with Him, dear one, there is no guilt.  There is no shame.  You must let this go. What is done is in the past.  I know your actions have left a gaping hole in your heart.  They have left you insecure, shy, afraid, unable to trust at times.  But do you know what?  Your Redeemer, He has come for you.  He turns His eyes towards you. He calls you beautiful and He will never manipulate you into loving Him.  He will never ask you to give Him anything in return for His love.

You are safe dear one.  You may not know Him yet.  But I am confident that you will. You already do.  You just aren’t aware of the Name of the One who calls you.  You hear His voice wooing you.  You feel His presence in your heart.  That check in your spirit? That is Him.  You are His Beloved One.  You are His delight.  You were a dream planted in His heart many, many years ago.  When He looks at you, He sees you pure and spotless.

And He sees you beautiful.

Don’t you ever forget that you belong to Him.  He will never stop pursuing you, even on those days when you feel far away from Him.  His love is relentless.  Rest in this knowledge, dear one.

There is One who desires you.

There is One who loves you.

There is One who will never leave you alone.

There is one who forgives you, not matter what.

He’s calling you.  Will you come to Him?

Emily Freeman has just written a new book, graceful, for young woman.  It’s so important they know who they are, that there is a God who loves them, and that there is grace, so much grace for their lives.

Oh Stephanie, I would be delighted. It’s so important the young girls understand how much they are loved by their Father in Heaven.

Oh Barbie, this is exactly what my teen self (and my 42 year old self) needs to hear. I can so relate to these words. It is right inline with the letter I wrote to myself 🙂 Love your heart! You are beautiful!

Sweet Barbie, Love this. Oh, these words to ourselves. So bittersweet — but so full of hope, too, to see where He’s been on this journey, all these years. Bless you, friend.

What a beautifully written letter. Do you just wish so badly that someone would invent a time machine to send these letters back in to our teenage selves 😉 This letter would have been perfect for me to read when I was about 17…

Oh you totally should! You can link it up with Emily Freeman (if the link is open) or simply just write it for yourself. I’ve done two of these letters in the past month and it’s really healing.
