Inspired Blogger: {Lisa @ Stop & Smell The Chocolates}

I am so excited about this month’s Inspired Blogger!  Lisa’s was one of the first blogs I started following when I first began blogging in 2008.  The title of her blog drew me in.  Who doesn’t love chocolate?  Lisa loves to share her sweet recipes and other yummy foods and she truly is a blogger who encourages and inspires.  I love her heart to help others be successful in their blogging journey.

Without further adieu, meet Lisa at Stop And Smell The Chocolates:

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’ve been happily married for 20 years and have 1 amazing son {now a teenager}! Throughout those years I’ve worn many different hats, but currently I’m a stay-at-home mom, imperfect homemaker, volunteer at school, and a blogger. I’ve been blogging for over 4 years now and still struggle with finding my way in the blogosphere. I try to share my struggles, thoughts, recipes, and hopefully encouragement as I wind my way through.

How long have you been blogging and how/why did you start?

I started blogging in April 2008 mainly as a way to get the thoughts out of my head and onto the screen. I was inspired by the blog Real Life, which I found through searching for a recipe. I had never been exposed to blogs written by moms and after following along for a couple months, I decided it was something I could probably do! And though I’ve had occasional breaks or stepped away for a bit, I’m still around and have no plans to quit blogging anytime soon! 🙂

What is the purpose of your blog?

Though I love sharing yummy recipes and making my blog a place that women can come to and take a mini-break from their busy day, my main purpose is: To learn to appreciate the little blessings in daily life and to inspire others to do the same.

What do you most enjoy about blogging?

I like the practice of writing, but I really love the connections and relationships made through blogging. I enjoy having the chance to use my words to encourage others, but also enjoy the encouragement given right back through other blogs. I have made many wonderful friends through blogging and that is a precious gift!

What are you passionate about?

This is sort of a struggle for me. I’m very laid back and mellow and don’t really consider myself truly passionate over any one thing {maybe I don’t let myself be?}. But one thing that is on my heart is encouraging others in the blogosphere. Newer bloggers often feel too much pressure to do everything the *right* way and long-time bloggers feel discouraged when they compare themselves to more successful bloggers. So many bloggers have quietly disappeared or have never even begun to blog though they felt called to do so. If I can reach a few of those people and lift their spirits, then that makes me happy. 🙂

Who or what inspires you?

Jesus has to be my first answer! But I am also awed by stories of women online and in “real” life who are going through incredibly difficult trials and continuing to trust in and find joy in the Lord. It gives me courage to face whatever may come in this lifetime. When a woman who struggles just to make it through the day can say, “God is good” – that inspires me.

Tell us something random about yourself.

So many things to choose from here, but I’ll go with something fun! Years ago I worked in a bank and wrote a “rap” about the checking accounts. I showed it to my managers who loved it and then I surprised the rest of the staff in a meeting with a performance of that rap…by none other than MC Lisa! L.O.L.!!! Even funnier is that later on, we got the whole branch to “perform” the rap together on video. I wonder what happened to MC Lisa?! 😉

Will you share with us one of your favorite posts and what you love about it?

I really like the Encouraging Bloggers series that I wrote last year. The posts weren’t perfect, but I was happy with how they turned out as I think I got my point across most of the time! I truly felt led to do that series and just wrote from the heart, praying that my words would encourage some bloggers. I’m actually working on reorganizing and cleaning up that series to put into a free e-book.

      You’re welcome my friend! I am thankful to have met you through blogging, and one of the few bloggers that I follow whom I’ve actually met in person.
