Move

Woman in blue dress holds orange suitcase in hands.

I like familiar paths. I like seeing the same people every day and doing the same tasks. My feet are firmly planted and I can be pretty stubborn when I’m asked to move.  Move can have a negative connotation for me. Several years ago we had to move from the home we owned for 16 years, in order to avoid foreclosure, as we were walking through an intense time of unemployment, surrounded by debt.  So we packed our bags and moved not too far down the road.

Unfamiliar places. Unfamiliar faces. It can all be overwhelming.

Perhaps it wouldn’t be overwhelming if I would first seek God in the move. Things change. We move here and there, people come and go from our lives, promises are made and broken and made again. But even so, there is One who is constant, One who remains the same.

I may be asked to move, but I know that He has already gone before me, and He is preparing the way. Whether that be in a physical dwelling, a job, a church — God is on the move, on my behalf, and I know that the outcome will be glorious!

Has God asked you to move lately? Are you taking His hand and trusting Him through the process?

Amen Barbie! <3 God will bring change into our lives through His amazing love and in His own time and way and we must fight the urge to resist it. If we are going to grow in our walk, we must be willing to invite and allow change in our lives. We must manage and respond to change so that it will work for us, not against us. 🙂 This sounds like a wonderful series!

Hope your week has been hopeful and encouraging! <3

Praying for you as you face these challenges. Every time we have moved in the pastorate it has been to a new state. Change is hard, but down the road we can always see new… really great things God could have never done in our lives if we had stayed where we were.

Hi Barbie! Not only have I not been posting, I haven’t been reading my favorite blogs lately (slow computer switch-over/using the new one on the kitchen table until I get the office cleaned & reorganized). Glad I took advantage of 31 Days to get me back in the groove. I am a bit of the opposite…I sort of crave change, which can be either positive or negative. I get restless with too much “sameness”, I think that’s why I like to change the appearance of my surroundings, experiment with makeup, etc. I figure seeking change in some of those ways will keep me from careless running ahead of God…I hope 🙂 Sometimes the hardest thing can be to stay when all you want to do is move! Looking forward to the rest of the month. Have a great day!

Moving, new changes they are so hard. But like you said, God is the only constant in this life. He’s someone worth holding on to and trusting. I’m here with you, Barbie!

Why do I always need to be reminded of this–that no matter what change, what challenge, what adventure that comes my way, God goes before me? Such beautiful comfort, friend. Thank you. This is going to be a beautiful series.

Love this Barbie. I can feel the pain of having to move after so many years balanced with the desire to rest in His good plan above it all. You know the joy to be found there and you show a beautiful light as you let His come through you. I’m grateful for your honesty & perseverance.

Having recently made a huge change in moving to a new church after 19 years of ministering with another, your 31 day series stood out to me. Even though I know God has gone ahead of me, it’s still a challenge. Looking forward to hearing about your experience over this next month.

Thank you Laura. It’s a huge transition going from a person who has been on paid staff for a number of years, to just a person sitting in the service enjoying worship. I am not sure I know how to “be” yet, and not “do” too much. I am sure God will lead me. Thanks for being here!
