HelpTeaching.com Pro Plan Review
As a busy homeschool mom who works outside the home, I am always looking for online resources to supplement my son’s course work. As part of The Schoolhouse ReviewCrew, I have been using the Pro Plan subscription from HelpTeaching.com to supplement my son’s middle school science and language arts courses.
About The Product
HelpTeaching.com is an online resource which includes printable and on-line tests, activities, and games for PreK-12th grades. There is so much included in the Pro Plan, such as:
- Test Maker to create unlimited custom tests and worksheets with up to 100 questions
- The ability to save your own tests as PDFs
- Pre-made premium content (Common Core, ELA and Math)
- Browse and search CCSS-aligned questions by standards
All of this for just $24.95 a year. Along with the paid plan, there are also free and group plans available.
The lessons for middle/high school students are meant for self-directed online learning. Each lesson contains a short introduction, and then has embedded videos from sources like Khan Academy, Educator.com, and Bozeman Science and links to other free online resources to help students understand the topic. All lessons also include practice questions to use for pre-assessment and practice, as well as links to longer, more formal tests and worksheets to assess what students have learned.
For the purposes of this review, I concentrated on middle school science and language arts. One of the science lessons my son was excited about was Astronomy. Although the lessons that were included started at the 5th grade level (which we also did), for middle school, we had fun learning about such topics as Meteor Showers, Solstices & Equinoxes, Lunar Eclipse, Solar Structure and The Moon’s Surface and Features.
Each lesson includes a short reading, a video, and a test, as well as other resources.
After we completed the Astronomy lessons we hopped over to Earth Science and and learned about such topics as: Earth Layers, Ground Water, Hurricanes, River Systems, Rock Types and more!
For tests, there is the option to print them, assign them to your student using an email address, or have the student take the test right there as soon as the lesson is finished.
For the most part, I used printed tests with my son. He often has trouble remembering what he’s read or heard with having ADD, so it was best to print the test so we could go back to the lesson if we needed to and review prior to taking the test.
The other course we focused on was language arts.
In the 7th and 8th grade language arts, my son did lessons which included:
- Misplaced Modifiers
- An Overview of Verb Tenses
- Future Tense Verbs
- Verb Moods
- What Are Verbals
- What Is A Gerund

Overall, we were very pleased with HelpTeaching.com and all that it has to offer. I appreciated the short lessons in the middle school module, and the mix of both printed and online material. My son loved the videos and he didn’t feel the lessons were difficult. This would be a great resource to you in your homeschooling endeavors. I would highly recommend it!
