When I saw the prompt for this week, my first thought was how I don’t feel energized and how exhausted I am (always). This has been a year, or two, or three of pushing through some hard places. Top it off with mid-life crises and mild depression, it can take a lot of energy just to get to the place of feeling energized.
Energized, by definition, means to liven up, invigorate, perk up, excite, electrify, stir up, fire up, motivate, move, drive, spur on, encourage, jump-start, kick-start, give a shot in the arm to, turbocharge.
I had to laugh at those last few. I sure feel like a need a kick start or a shot in the arm most days.
But no matter how exhausted I feel, both emotionally and physically, there are things that make me feel alive and renewed, refreshed and hopeful.
For this week’s list, I am sharing the ways I am energized.
A warm cup of coffee first thing in the morning. It wakes up my body and perks up my mind (or at least that’s what it’s supposed to do).
Reading encouragement from God’s Word. His promises are true and He is a good Father. No matter what.
Singing in the shower. Yes, my singing career pretty much stops there. I love to sing the song that I wake up with on my heart, which is usually a worship song or a hymn. There is nothing like a hot shower to wake up your body, and a good ‘ole hymn to get your mind set on things above.
Laughter among friends. Where would I be without my girlfriends. The bible says that laughter is good medicine and I don’t do enough of it these days. So I enjoy a good ‘ole belly laugh with my girls.
A walk on a cool evening. I just experienced this last night for the first time in a long time. As I take baby steps towards getting healthy, a walk not only gets the heart going and the blood pumping, it’s also a time to reflect and take in the beauty of God’s creation.
Taking time to rest. Sadly, I don’t get enough of it. But I know how much better I feel when I take that time to rest and be still.
How about you? What makes you feel energized?
