The Faith To Give // Glimpses Link Up

I believe I am a very giving person. I give of my time and resources to the extent that I am able. But sometimes I feel as if my lack prevents me from giving the way that I would want to. So many have come to our aid in our time of need and I want to return the favor. I know others do not give with the expectation of receiving, but my heart is to be able to be the giver, and not just the recipient.

Today Pastor Elijah with Hands of Love visited our church to share the vision and mission of its ministry to almost 2,000 children in Uganda. But my heart did not have to wait to hear the message before I felt God prompting me to act.

When I walked into church early this morning the child sponsorship tables were being set up. I ordered my coffee, and my bagel, and sat down in the lobby to check my Facebook and Instagram feeds. As I glanced over to the table, I kept hearing the Lord prompting me to sponsor a child. Child sponsorship has always been in my heart. Matter of fact my husband and I sponsored a child for about a year through another program several years ago. However when our financial circumstances changed, we did not feel we could continue. We lacked the faith to believe God would provide over and above our needs.

So this morning as I sat there enjoying my coffee and bagel, I kept feeling the nudging of the Holy Spirit. My immediate response was, “Lord, we can’t afford to sponsor a child.” You see, it was the fear of what I saw as a past failure in this area that I was clinging to. After about 15 minutes of reminding the Lord of my lack, I could no longer ignore His voice and I headed over to the child sponsorship table. As I looked at the pictures of the beautiful children and read their stories, I was moved with such compassion and my eyes filled with tears. How could I not help at least one child? With the help of my daughter we picked out a beautiful, nine year old boy to sponsor.

In my lack, I stepped forward in faith to give, knowing God will provide. #glimpsesofhisbeauty Click To Tweet

What I learned from this experience is that it’s so easy to respond out of our lack without first seeking the Lord for his provision. That cup of coffee and bagel I purchased this morning was over $7.00. My pledged amount to provide an education, clothing and other basic needs for our child is just $45 a month. I will gladly give up a few cups of coffee so this one can be clothed, fed and discipled in the Word of God. I believe that today I took a step forward to break the poverty spirit that has bound my family for many years. Although I did not give because I know the blessing will follow, I welcome the floodgates of heaven to open on our behalf because of our obedience.

Would you take a moment and ask the Lord how He is calling you to give today? It could be time, money or another resource. If you lack the faith, take a step and watch what God will do.

And now I continue to list the beauty that I’m finding in my every day life.

Happy Happy Birthday!! So glad you answered God’s call to love outside our borders. Like the children RCF, Inc. serves, there are so many that need the love and hope that can only be found in Jesus.

Thank you for stepping forward in faith and being vulnerable to share it with all of us. I have recently been trying to listen carefully to God as he prompts me to give or do something. On Sunday I was so blessed when I acted out of obedience to give a young girl a hug. In my obedience to God, she ended up being my blessing of the day.

    Happy 4th of July!

There is so much power in a hug, both for the giver and the one it is given to. Thankful you were blessed.

Awesome message! If we just give in and let God do His thing… well, then it all works out one way or another!

You will get a fantabulous multitudinous amount of blessings from the love of God that you’re sharing with that child!

Have a blessed week, my friend!
