The Blessing Of Privilege // Five Minute Friday
It’s that time again, where I get to join the beautiful community of Five Minute Friday writers. Each week we write for just five minutes on a word prompt. No editing or overthinking. No worrying about perfection. Just words freely flowing from our heart to yours. If you’ve never written a Five Minute Friday post, you should. It’s easier than you think (but sometimes a little hard).
This week’s prompt is:
When I first think of the word privilege, my mind wanders to my childhood. Growing up we weren’t poor, but I definitely didn’t come from a privileged background. Back then, I likened privilege to what a person had (money, homes, cars, fancy things). I had some very privileged friends, but I wouldn’t have wanted to be them. They always thought they were better than me and I spent the better part of my life learning to believe that I was worthy of someone’s love.
These days though I liken privilege to blessing. I don’t look as privilege so much as a right (as the dictionary would tell you), but rather God-given gifts handed to me by my Creator.
I see privilege as God-given gifts handed to me by my Creator. #fiveminutefriday Click To Tweet
It’s a privilege to wake up every morning to take another breath so that I can live another day.
It’s a privilege to be able to get out of bed each morning, despite muscle pain from fibromyalgia (so many I know cannot).
It’s a blessing to have a job that pays good money, where you enjoy working alongside your co-workers.
It’s a privilege to be the wife of a wonderful man, to walk this journey alongside of him, through the good and the bad.
It’s a privilege to have nearly raised four beautiful children, all whom love and serve the Lord, and to get to have a role in raising my beautiful grandbabies.
It’s a privilege to have good friends who stick with you through thick and thin, who’s love and opinion of you never waivers.
It’s a privilege to call so many women friends through social media, both near and far. To link shields in prayer and to encourage through words is a blessing.
It’s a privilege to be a child of the God. He sought me out, drew me up through the ashes and set my feet upon a rock.I'm counting my blessings today as I realize the many privileges I have. #fiveminutefriday Click To Tweet
