Introducing “The Stray” – A Family-Friendly Movie

When my kids were little, we enjoyed going to the movies to watch shows that provided wholesome family feelings.  We also loved gathering on the couch to rent the latest family feature film. My kids aren’t little anymore, but as a Nana to two little ones, I am continually on the hunt for movies I can enjoy with the grandkids.

New in theaters this month is The Stray.

It is a movie about a stray dog who saves a family in more ways than one.  Here’s a little synopsis:

“Pluto” comes out of nowhere and quickly makes himself at home with the Davis family, who are on the brink of falling apart. Dad (Michael Cassidy; Argo, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice) is a career-driven workaholic who is neglecting his marriage and family. Mom (Sarah Lancaster; Chuck, Saved by the Bell: The New Class) is at her wit’s end raising three young kids. The last thing they need is another mouth to feed. Or is it? In just a short time with the Davis family, Pluto the “wonderdog” manages to save a lost toddler, bring comfort and companionship to a hurting 9-year-old boy (Connor Corum; Heaven is for Real), help restore a marriage, and repair a broken father-son relationship. Pluto is not only a guard dog – he’s a guardian angel.

Sometimes help comes from the most unlikely places. Sometimes our prayers get answered in strange ways. Sometimes one dog can change everything.

This precious movie isn’t yet playing near me. I am hopeful that it will do well enough to open in more theatres. But if not, I may take a small drive so that I can enjoy it with my grandson.

Here’s the official movie trailer for you to enjoy!

Jeremy Camp “The Answer” CD Review & Giveaway

I’m wrapping up a spectacular month of new music and giveaways with Jeremy Camp’s The Answer CD. My husband and I have been Jeremy Camp fans for a long time, beginning with Carried Me, The Worship Project. I actually think my husband was rocking out to him before that. This new album did not disappoint!

Here is what Jeremy says about this new album:

“What’s been amazing about The Answer is that all of the songs were inspired by just being present,” Camp shares. “There was no song where I was sitting there and had this epiphany when I was writing. In every writing session, any idea literally just came in the moment. I was praying the whole time, ‘Lord, give me opportunities to combine these things that You are doing in our hearts.”

I was most familiar with the song, Word of Life as it’s been playing on my local Christian radio station. This song is catchy and really helps you to remember that God’s Word is life and that when all else fails, it is there to bring hope and comfort.

Word of life
Speak to my weary heart
Strengthen my broken parts
Lead me to Your open arms
Word of truth
Illuminate all these lies
The enemy speaks inside
In freedom I will rise

‘Cause You called me out from the grave
So I can live like I’ve been changed
There is a new song in my soul
And it begins when I breathe in
Your word of life
(Your word of life)

Here is the the story behind the song, Word of Life:

Another song I love on this album is Never Stopped Loving.  This song talks about God’s love for us, how it will never end. No matter what we do, how we turn away, God continues to chase after us. He will never stop loving us.

You kept on calling my name
through all my darkness and haze
even when I had fell apart
You held me close to Your heart

when I had gone astray
how You would chase me
how You would chase me
when I was so afraid
You would embrace me
You would embrace me

You never stop loving
never stop loving me
You never stop loving
never stop loving me

Here is the song video for Never Stopped Loving:

My husband’s favorite song on this album is Awake O Sleeper. Not only are the lyrics powerful in this song, but the music tone is very Blue Grass, which my husband loves!

do you hear the Lion roar
wake o sleeper
stand with me we’ll fight the war
wake o sleeper

your suffering will come again
and never fall away
unless we trade our many comforts
like the ones who bled for grace

and there will be a day
my God will come and put me in my place
my God I know You’ll call my name
You will not turn away

Overall, I, along with my husband, really enjoyed this album. There are a lot of songs that cause my faith to rise up and say, “No, I will not believe the lies. I will stand on the promises of God.”! We are actually hoping to catch Jeremy’s The Answer tour in Stockton next weekend! So excited!

If you’d like to purchase this album, you can buy it here.

Matt Redman “Glory Song” CD // Review & Giveaway

I have been so blessed over the last month to have received some amazing new worship CDs for review. The newest one is by Matt Redman entitled Glory Song.  I am a huge Matt Redman fan so I was super excited to review this one.

About The Album

Matt Redman teamed up with several of his worship-artist friends for this album, first releasing the track “Gracefully Broken (feat. Tasha Cobbs Leonard).” Tasha Cobbs Leonard also released her own version of this song on the same day! The album also features Kierra Sheard, Guvna B, Madison Cunningham, and Kim Walker-Smith.

When Matt released his single Gracefully Broken, I was instantly a fan and I knew I was going to love this album. The lyrics in this song speak of one that longs to be set on fire, used by God. There is something about the term “gracefully broken” that causes my heart to cry out.  I am so thankful that He’s covered my brokenness with His grace.

My heart stands in awe of Your Name
Your Mighty love stands strong to the end
You will fulfill your purpose for me
You won’t forsake me, You will be with me
Here I am, God
Arms wide open
Pouring out my life
Gracefully broken
Pouring out my life again

Here is a video of a live performance of Gracefully Broken.

Another song that really gripped my heart was Questions (You Are Faithful).  This song brings so much comfort, especially with all that is happening in the world today.  It speaks of a God who can be trusted, despite the chaos that surrounds us.  He really is faithful.

In all of our chaos, You will be constant
You can be trusted above it all
All of our fears and doubts, all of our anxious thoughts
You are not absent within the storm

Another one of my favorite songs on this album is Still I Will Sing.  Worship is something that I go to when life gets hard and I can’t seem to do anything else.  Singing songs of praise to the Lord, songs about His character and faithfulness always bring me closer to Him.  No matter what is going on in my life, still I will sing.

I’ll sing out Your praise in the morning light
And I’ll call out Your name on the edge of night
Sometimes it’s a song of joy
Sometimes a sacrifice
Still I sing, still I will
Sing in the battle, sing in the blessing
Sing through the shadows, shout with the heavens
I won’t be silent, no, I won’t be silent
Still I sing, still I will sing

This album came at a time in my life when I needed to be reminded that God is faithful and that His glory still shines.  No matter what is happening in my life, God is worthy to be praised.

Matthew West “All In” CD Review & Giveaway

I love to worship and new worship music is always a blessing. I cannot tell you how excited I was for the opportunity to review Matthew West’s new CD, All In.

Matthew’s Heart Behind the Album

Matthew wrote his new album All In with the goal of encouraging himself and others to get up off the sidelines of their faith and really live it out – to go all in in your time with God, all in with your family, all in with your community, and all in battling your fears that may hold you back from becoming who God made you to be.

Matthew launched a 6-week All in Challenge on his social media starting 9/18, and each week Matthew will be challenging his fans to go all in in a different part of their lives. What does it look like when a heart that knows Jesus takes a step and holds nothing back? How can we go All In in the places that mean the most?

My Thoughts

I was familiar with Matthew West from his song Hello My Name Is from his album Into the Light from 2012. Most recently, my favorite Christian radio station has been playing Broken Things from the All In album. This song is so my heart.  For so long I didn’t feel worthy of God’s love or to receive anything good from Him.  I often feel like a beggar, standing before a King.  I am broken and bruised, but God still chooses to use me.

Now I’m just a beggar in the presence of a King
I wish I could bring so much more.
But if it’s true You use broken things
The here I am Lord, I’m all Yours.

Here is a video of this song.

Another song that really touched me was The Beautiful Things We Miss. I’ve spent the last sevearl years of my life looking for the beauty of God among the ordinary. If we don’t have our eyes open to it, it’s so easy to miss.  Having four children, all who are nearly grown, it made me stop and think about how fleeting life is and how they grow up so fast. I don’t want to miss another moment of their growing up lives. I don’t want to miss the beauty of God that surrounds me.

I don’t want to look back some day and find
everything that really mattered
was right in front of me this whole time.

Open up my eyes, Lord.
Keep me in the moment just like this
before the beautiful things we love
become the beautiful things we miss.

Here is Matthew’s story behind the song The Beautiful Things We Miss.

I can’t end this review without sharing the video from the title song, All In, also one of my favorites!

I really enjoyed this album. So many of the songs touch my heart, and there are some catchy and moving lyrics throughout. I really enjoyed the song that Matthew sings with his daughter, Lulu, Becoming Me. It is so precious.

Crossflix Streaming Service // Review

As a mom, it’s important for me to have quality and wholesome television and movies available for myself and my family to enjoy.  While I subscribe to subscription-based programs such as Netflix and Hulu, it’s hard to find shows with a Christian or wholesome theme.  This is why I was excited for the opportunity to review the streaming service of Crossflix.

*Be sure to read the rest of this post to find out how you can enter to win a one-year subscription for your family.

The mission of Crossflix Inc. and its parent company Christ Vue Inc. is to spread and strengthen the faith in Christ by offering entertaining movies, documentaries, and Biblical education for adults and children. Virtually all of Crossflix’s content delivers a strong faith message. Through its success, Crossflix plans to empower Christian Artists, Directors, Producers, Distributors, and Production Companies.

In order to use this service you will need a computer, iPad, Kindle Fire or other device that you can stream on.  When I first logged onto the service I was using my Kindle Fire and everything loaded up perfectly.  Once on the home page, the options are categorized as follows:

  • New Releases
  • Featured & Crossflix Originals
  • Free Trailers
  • Faith
  • Family
  • Classic Family
  • Christmas
  • Drama
  • Comedy
  • Action & Adventure
  • Love & Relationships
  • Biblical Films and Documentaries
  • Crossflix Living Bible Series
  • Sermons & Ministries
  • Children’s Education & Animation
  • Popular Series

One thing to note is there wasn’t too much information given about each listing. A trailer isn’t always offered so you kind of have to just start watching to see if you are going to like what you pick.  And there is no information given as to actors that I could find.  Sometimes if I recognize an actor/actress in a movie, or can watch a trailer, I am more apt to watch.

The first movie I watched was Faith’s Song (1:42) about a young girl whose faith is tested when her parents are suddenly killed and she’s forced to move in with relatives who do not share her beliefs. While the acting underwhelmed me at times, overall this was a great movie.  The general theme of standing strong when your faith is tested is prevalent throughout and all ended well.

The next time I tried to watch a film was on my computer, and for some reason I was unable to connect. I have pretty much resolved that due to the fact that there are 7 adults living in my house, who all use the internet, that I just got on at a bad time. So off I went to my Kindle Fire again to watch My Mother’s Future Husband (1:29).  This movie is about a daughter who is desperate for her mother to find love again, but both she and her mom must heal from their past before they can move forward.  This was a great movie, and I thought the acting was well done.

While my health and streaming issues (not to do with Crossflix) kept me from viewing more, I am excited to continue watching throughout the rest of my free 3-month subscription.

If you are interested in checking out Crossflix, the good folks over at FrontGate Media are hosting a giveaway for a one year subscription over at this link.

*I was given a free 3-month subscription of Crossflix in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
