Community

Ever since I was a little girl, I had a deep desire to be a part of what was happening around me. As the fourth child, and the middle girl, I often felt left out of the things that my brothers and sisters were involved in. And when I was fortunate enough to take part, I was always given the lesser role. I often felt alone, unloved and unwanted.

As a teenager in high school, I joined lots of the campus clubs, not because I was passionate about their cause, but because I simply wanted to belong to something. I didn’t last very long in any of them. Although I had good friends in high school, I never felt connected to any of them. Feelings of disconnect left me wounded and brokenhearted.

In my young adult years I met Christ and began to follow Him. This decision automatically disqualified me from the invite list of many of my friends to many of the places I use to frequent. My old self was no longer alive. She died when she met Christ and those I hung with in the old days just couldn’t understand this new life. I was no longer welcome in their community.

God has blessed me with so many beautiful “in-real-life”, Jesus loving girlfriends, and I am truly grateful. I know that He has given me a heart to encourage them in their walk with the Lord, and I believe He has given me the passion to encourage so many others beyond my immediate sphere of influence.

Almost eight years ago, I set out on an adventure to enlarge my community through blogging. I had heard that you can have deep and lasting friendships through the airways and never really meet face-to-face. Although my blogging tenure has been laden with friends who have both come and gone, I wouldn’t trade the blessings that I’ve found in community through blogging for anything. I’ve been drawn in by your words, inspired by your images, encouraged by your faith and strengthened through your struggles. You are my people.

In December 2011, I began this link up  as “Fresh Brewed Sundays”, which morphed into The Weekend Brew in 2015, and finally became Weekend Whispers this year.

My desire was to foster a community of like-minded women who loved Christ and wanted to share their heart through their writing. I have loved getting to know you through our little community. I have been blessed by your words, uplifted by your prayers and fueled by your encouragement. I wouldn’t change a thing.

But God has greater plans.

I want to let you in on a little secret.  There is a big change coming soon to the link up. I can’t share too much just yet, as it will spoil the surprise, but I am beyond thrilled. And, I am excited to have Carrie along on the journey as we take the final steps into the new that we believe that God has called us to.  Carrie will share a little more next week.

If you’ve been blessed by the community here, will you leave a comment and let us know? And will you pray that the final touches regarding our change will go smoothly?  We are so excited.

Tell us, how have you been blessed in community here at Weekend Whispers?

Held In The Grip Of Grace // Weekend Whispers

I’ve been thinking a lot of about grace lately, and how on most days, I don’t really deserve it. But isn’t that true of all of us? Grace is given to use freely by a God who loves us, unconditionally, no matter what. He doesn’t keep a record of wrongs. Oh He wants us to repent of our sin, but even so, God still loves, and He continues to pour out grace abundantly.

Oh, how generous and gracious our Lord was! He filled me with the faith and love that come from Christ Jesus. (1 Timothy 1:14)

On days when life is hard I really have to reach for grace, to accept the truth that there is a God who loves me, who fights for me, and who truly has my best interest at heart. Most days I fight to stay in a place of faith.

The phrase, “held in the grip of grace” kept coming to my mind.

gripofgrace

You know that picture of the cat who is barely hanging on to the tree branch, and the slogan reads, “just hang on”? Well I picture me as the cat. All haggard looking, eyes full of fear and uncertainty, barely hanging on. And I picture God as the branch. Although it looks small, there is so much power and strength in the branch. It holds enough strength to hold me, to keep me from falling, and to reassure me of His presence.

That’s how I picture being held in the grip of God’s grace. It’s when my weakness meets His strength. Even though I may feel my circumstances bearing it’s weight upon me, it’s not too heavy for God. Even though the branch may bend and sway with the wind, it will not break. I will not fall.

Grace defined means, “the free and unmerited favor of God.”

Favor defined is, “an act of kindness beyond what is due or usual.”

I get off track sometimes. I go off on my own and hide in a corner, waiting for all of my cares and worries to cease. I pout, I stomp my feet, I shake my fist…at God. Yes, I do. Don’t you at times? God does not promise us an easy life free from pain and trouble. But He does promise He will remain by our side as we walk the journey.

I sometimes feel guilty for allowing my circumstances to cause me so much pain. I haven’t lost a child. My marriage is still in tact. I have a roof over my head and so many things to be thankful for. But there is heartache, disillusionment and worry. It may not be your story, but it’s my story. To some it may not be a big deal, but to me, it’s huge.

I think the last five years has really put a toll on my faith walk with God. Although I’ve never strayed completely off the path, at times I’ve shut Him out. I’ve turned my eyes and walked my own way. Oh I love Him. But when you are hit with one disappointment after another and the season of winter seems to never end, sometimes you need a break to regroup.  You need to go to a quiet place and cry tears and stomp your feet, all the while knowing that God is right there beside you, no matter what.

When we are held in the grip of God’s grace, He will not let you go. We may feel as if we are falling, but He will not let us.

I may not know how this particular season we are fighting through will end,
but grace comes and leads me into His truth.

I may be grieving over lost dreams,
but grace comes and turns my mourning into dancing and fills my heart with joy.

I may be broken and bruised,
but grace comes and holds my broken heart and breathes life and healing

And all the while I am reminded that He is a good, good Father.

How are you doing today, my friend? How can we pray for you? Do you have a grace story to share? We would love for you to link up so that we can visit you.

Good, Good Father {Chris Tomlin Video Release} // Weekend Whispers

God has a way of ingraining into my head the very promise that I need the most, when I most need to hear it. Our family has been in a hard, hard season. (You can read more about our current plight at the end of this post.) I’ve been wrestling with God, wrestling with my faith, wrestling to stay strong with so much uncertainty. I’ve been mad, and sad, and worried. But God, He knows what I need to be reminded of and when.

This morning I woke up humming  Chris Tomlin’s Good, Good Father. Honestly, I haven’t woken up humming a song for a while. So I was taking note.

“Yes, Father, You ARE good!”.

Then I got in the car to go to work, and Good, Good Father was playing on K-LOVE.

“Father, You have my attention. You are good!”

Finally, I get into my car to go to lunch and guess what song was playing on K-LOVE, again?

“I surrender, Father. You are good. No matter what.”

Every since Chris Tomlin released his song, Good, Good, Father, it’s been an anthem for my current season of struggle. It is a much needed reminder on hard days that, no matter how bleak and uncertain things may appear, God is still good. And He loves me.

Lead Me To The Rock // Weekend Whispers

simplewords1

Sharing some simple words today. The cry of my heart that God would lead me to the rock which is higher than I. His ways are higher, His thoughts are greater. When I am afraid, I will trust in Him.

Whispers of His Grace // Weekend Whispers

When I redesigned my blog in January, I was given a new tagline, I believe by the Lord — Whispers of Grace.

Whispers of Grace
I believe the Lord is taking me on a journey of truly leaning in and listening, hearing His voice among the noise and clamoring of life. It’s not always easy for me to hear Him. Especially lately. I run in “shut down” or “shut off” mode more days than I care to admit. Or perhaps I’m on auto pilot, living in the mundane, and forgetting to live in the “in between”.

But His grace, it’s always there. Its surrounds me. It overwhelmes me in moments when I think I’ve come to the end. It lifts my head up when heaviness descends upon me. It gives me the strength to get out of bed in the morning, to drive to work, to homeschool plan and do all of the things that I need to do each day.

On those days when life feels overwhelming and my ear is turned to the noise of this world, I must stop and ask Him,

What grace are You whispering to my heart today?

When I hear, “You messed up again”,
His grace whispers ,”I am the God of second chances.”

When I hear, “You’ll never finish what you started”,
His grace whispers, “I will give you the strength to complete the race.”

When I hear, “You are ugly”,
His grace whispers, “You are lovely.”

When I hear, “You’re not a good teacher”,
His grace whispers, “I am your teacher and will give you the wisdom you need.”

When I hear, “You are not enough”,
His grace whispers, “In Me, you are enough.”

When I hear, “You’re too old to make a difference”,
His grace whispers, “I’m not finished with you yet.”

What grace is God whispering to your heart today?
