52 Lists Project

52Lists Project // Thanksgiving Menu

Thanksgiving is almost here. It’s one of my favorite holidays. I have fond memories of getting up early in the morning, watching the parade and eating nonstop. We are pretty traditional in our family with regard to the menu. Today I am sharing what will be on our table for Thanksgiving dinner along with others for the 52 Lists Project.

Embrace Day 11 // Five Minute Free Writes “Thanks”

I’ve been intentionally focused on giving thanks this year. Not that I haven’t been before, but for a time, I allowed circumstances to cloud my vision of all of the beauty surrounding my life. Now, I am intentionally seeking it out. Giving thanks is a muscle that must be exercised daily if we are to grow a heart of gratitude. #write31days #FMFW #glimpsesofhisbeauty Click To Tweet

This beauty, it hides in the messy corners of my life. It disguises itself as unimportant among the mundane, and my eyes divert their attention away from it. But I’ve been asking the Lord to open my eyes so that I can fully see the beauty that is right in front of me.

Open my eyes, Lord, that I might see the beauty all around me. #write31days #FMFW #glimpsesofhisbeauty Click To Tweet

I am sharing my list of thanks on my blog every Monday, intentionally giving thanks for the little things in my life, the not so obvious and easily overlooked. In doing so, I realize how truly blessed I am and how rich my life is with the beauty of Christ.

Are you practicing giving thanks for the little things in your life? How does intentionally looking for beauty in your life create a heart of gratitude?

embrace_150This post is part of a 31 Day series entitled Embrace, where I will be sharing images, quotes and words that I hope will stir your soul. You can find each post in this series here. Together, let’s embrace every day and the beauty that each one holds.

Thanksgiving Prayer 2014

Dear One,

My prayer for you today is that you would be surrounded by family and friends, that love and laughter would abound, and that His presence would abide with you.  May you receive His strength and grace today in all that you do. May your heart be open to receive the blessings of those who surround you.

For those who are hurting, my prayer is that you would find comfort in His arms today, as He draws you close and reminds you that He is with you. May the memories of those you love who have gone home to heaven, or cannot be with you today, bring joy to your heart.

For the one who is alone, unable to travel, or far away from family and friends, my prayer is that you would look up into the eyes of Jesus and know how very much you are loved and valued. May you open your heart today to receive His love.  May you allow Him to heal your broken heart. May peace and joy abound in your home.

[Tweet “May you enjoy the simple pleasures found at the table of the Lord, where His abundance awaits you.”]

Thank you for being here. You bless my life tremendously with your presence.

A Thankful Heart {Three Word Wednesday}

Tomorrow we will celebrate Thanksgiving, a time of year that causes one to pause and reflect on all that is good in their life.  So often during this time of year I can tend to allow anxiety to overrun me.  It’s hard to remain balanced when life has me running here and there, with hardly time to breathe most days (although isn’t breathing automatic?).  I can allow the pressure and stress of the season to weigh heavy on my heart, and I will often forget to stop and give thanks to the One who is worthy of all praise and thanksgiving, at all times.

I want my heart to overflow with thanksgiving.  I want to have a grateful heart and to truly know what it is like to “give thanks in all things and in all circumstances.”  There are so many moments of beauty that pass me by each day because I am so focused on my circumstances or on the days ahead. I forget to pause, to breathe Him in, and to offer up thanksgiving, because truly, I have so much to be thankful for, and really, He is worthy, no matter what.

So today, and every day, I choose to practice having a thankful heart.  Here’s a little bit of what that looks like for me:

  1. A thankful heart chooses to look beyond the piles of dirty laundry to the beauty of clothing that I get to wear.
  2. A thankful heart chooses to look beyond the imperfections of a child to the beauty of a budding, independent personality.
  3. A thankful heart chooses to look beyond the inattentiveness of a husband to the beauty of a man who works hard to provide for his family.
  4. A thankful heart chooses to look beyond my lack to the beauty of all that I have been given.
  5. A thankful heart chooses to look beyond myself to the beauty that is Christ Jesus.

How about you my friend?  What kind of beauty is overflowing from your heart today?
