I am continuing my journey through Psalm 23 with Kerri of A Simple Princess. Today we are discussing the paths of righteousness. I hope you will write a post and link up over at Kerri’s or share your thoughts on this portion of scripture in the comments below.
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. (Psalm 23:3b)
I have entrusted my life into the hands of My Shepherd. He promises to always lead me and guide me safely on life’s path. He always has my best interest at heart. But sometimes, like a sheep, I go astray, chasing my own will, my own desires in search of what may be just off the path. But there is no safety there. For when I stray I open myself up to danger, darkness, pain and ruin. But on the path of righteousness lies truth, justice, mercy, righteousness, forgiveness and purity — everything upright and moral that my heart desires. This is where I bring Him glory, when I remain on the paths of righteousness.
And My Shepherd, He always keeps me there on that path, hidden in the shelter of His wings. He beings me protection and feeds my soul. It would go against the very nature of God to lead me into anything that would cause my foot to stumble. He cannot lead me astray. It is only by my human nature, lusts of the flesh and my own free will that I make this choice. And when I do, My Shepherd gently brings me back, showering me with His love and forgiveness and setting my feet once again upon the path that would not only restore my joy, but would bring him the greatest glory.
I have taught you the way of wisdom;
I have led you in the paths of uprightness.
12 When you walk, your step will not be hampered,
and if you run, you will not stumble.
13 Keep hold of instruction; do not let go;
guard her, for she is your life. (Proverbs 4:11)
I am so thankful for the paths of righteousness that My Shepherd has so clearly laid out before me. And I pray every day for the wisdom and knowledge to walk out a life of righteousness before Him.
