He Restores My Soul: {Finding Peace in Psalm 23}

I am continuing my journey of Finding Peace in Psalm 23 with Kerri of A Simple Princess.  Today, our focus is on the first part of verse 3:

He restores my soul.

This portion of scripture really ties together the first two verses for me so far.

The Lord is my Shepherd.

He always leads me and guides me safely.

I have everything I need in Him.

He brings me peace and rest.

And after all is said is done, He brings restoration to my soul.

restore – to return to a former condition.

I was created to be continually in the presence of the Shepherd.  There, I am surrounded by His peace, rest and love.  But it’s nearly impossible for me to live in that place in my own strength, as the cares of this world and that of my own life compete for my attention.  Sometimes I make the decision to leave the place of safety and wander aimlessly through life.  Other times life throws me a curve ball or two and causes me to veer off the path that the Shepherd has set before me.

But no matter what, My Shepherd is in the business of restoring.  His desire is to bring me back to that place of safety, to that place of peace and rest, where I will graze once again on the green pastures, finding refreshing water for my thirsty soul.  Restoration back to the fold of the Shepherd is something that my heart desires.

Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.  (Psalm 51:12)

It’s a continual act of surrender as I allow the Good Shepherd to come and to gently lead me back into the safety of the green pastures.  There I will graze on His Word and remember His faithfulness.  There my soul is restored.

The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;   (Psalm 19:7)

    A beautiful reminder that restoration begins with an act of surrender to Him…to our Good Shepherd! Have a wonderful week!
