Five Minute Friday: Last (Anniversary Edition!)
Today I am joining Lisa-Jo and others for the 5 Minute Friday where we are given a word prompt and write for just 5 minutes simply for the joy of writing. No editing or backtracking necessary. No need to be perfect. Just words freely flowing from my heart to yours.
Last
I was shy, insecure, impatient and angry.
You were strong, independent, patient and kind.
We meet as leaders in youth group
with the help of the youth pastor’s wife.
I remember our first date, to the amusement park we went.
Then off to sail the SF Bay with your parents the next day.
I remember how I came home and proclaimed, after our 2nd date,
that this was the man I would marry someday.
My grandmother heard me and believed me.
And just about four weeks after we meet,
you placed the ring on my finger
and I said Yes!
It’s been 25 years!
We have very little, but we are rich in every way.
Four beautiful children, all serving and loving the Lord.
Very little money, just enough to get by.
Our own home we had to sell, but shelter He provides.
Two cars in the driveway, both old, we hope will last.
No material possessions of earthly value,
Just the basic necessities.
So much of what we have will not last long,
Before you know it, it will all be gone.
But you and me,
our love will last for all eternity.
*My husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary on Tuesday. We have been through so much, especially the last three years with his unemployment, but we have grown stronger in so may ways. I would give anything for this man and would do it all over again in a heart beat.
