The Weekend Brew: Sacred Places (by Mary Geisen) — 40 Comments

  1. I love your description of sacred places. Just beautiful. Psalm 27 is my favorite psalm and dwelling in the house of the Lord all the days of my life is the very scripture that inspired my blog, Holimess. Thank you for sharing.

  2. As a child, decades before I was saved, I used to slip into a church in our neighborhood. It was always empty and unlocked, and just sitting there I felt closer to God even though I didn’t know Him yet. Thanks for the great post & for hosting & God bless.

    • Your words of encouragement mean so much and taking time to join in the conversation is a blessing. It sounds like your story is one I would love to hear someday. Blessings for a beautiful week!

  3. I haven’t been here in a long while! what a delight to see you hosting Mary! You articulated, perfectly what I felt on a recent walk in Central Park. A walk amongst the trees was indeed holy, a true sacred space. For sure God was bigger than me. I recognized it and was grateful.

    • I believe that as soon as we open the door a crack, God comes in too. He pursues us relentlessly and we need to provide the opening for Him to join us right where we are. Thank you for being here Elizabeth and joining the conversation. Hugs!

  4. This is beautiful and so congruent with some of the things Jesus has been impressing on my heart lately – there’s this burning desire to see Him in all the facets of my life and all the faces around me… Love you, Mary. Thanks for this.

  5. As a child, I found him in my back yard, in a closet – under the covers when I was frightened and we were taught about him in the classroom. I think it helped me to not keep in stuffed in a Sunday-morning-church-only box. My days go so much better when I know He’s with me everywhere! Thank you, Mary!

    • I love the sense of awareness you had of Jesus as a child. It sounds like it was very comforting. I agree completely that when God’s presence is greater than my own on any given day, it is sure to go much smoother. Blessed you joined in the conversation and community today!

  6. Barbie-I love being here with you! This is home! Thank you for reminding me of the verse from Jeremiah and that it is in the seeking with our whole being that we find God. Love you friend!

  7. LOVE this post Mary. It reminds of the scripture verse Jeremiah 29:13, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Every place can be a sacred place when we invite God in. Thank you for being such a beautiful and gracious hostess of The Weekend Brew!

  8. Mary, thanks for inviting us to look for the sacred today. This is a beautiful reflection. For me, I find I connect deeply with the Lord when I am outside — especially in front of the ocean. Its vastness reminds me of how mysterious and amazing my God is.
    Blessings to you this weekend!

    • I love the outside but I also have a special connection with God at the ocean. His bigness is on display but His gentleness flows in with the tide. Blessed you joined in the conversation and thank you for joining The Weekend Brew today.

  9. Mary, girlfriend, you are “spot on.” Sanctuary is where He is greater than we are. John the Baptist had it right: He must become more and I must become less.” The yielded heart is where we come to know Him and the yielding can be done anywhere at any time.

    • Wise words, Chris-the yielded heart is where we find God and come to know Him. So true! Love seeing you here at The Weekend Brew. Thanks for joining the conversation. Weekend Blessings!

    • What beautiful words to describe our walk with God-the perfecting process! God certainly works hard on me as my messes are many times bigger than my accomplishments, but the reassurance that God is with us 24/7 with His grace is such a gift.
Thank you for being so dear, Heather and for hanging out at The Weekend Brew!

  10. This is wonderful, Mary. So thankful God is with us everywhere, and we can experience those sacred times with Him at home, at school, outdoors, everywhere. My favorite is sitting in our recliner, when I read His Word and do my studying. Lifting you and Barbie in prayer this morning. God bless you both.

    • Thank you for your prayers this morning and for your presence here. May we find God everywhere and open wide in acceptance when His voice whispers or speaks loudly. Hugs and blessings friend!

    • Thank you Chris for your words of encouragement! I am so glad that you joined in the conversation and shared the importance of losing ourselves in order to gain God. Weekend blessings!

  11. I am so grateful we can come to God wherever and whenever. I am sitting here reading from Exodus and reminded of His holiness and how when we do come before Him it should still be done with reverence and repentance. We should not rush into worship with Him or take advantage of how accessible He is to us.
I just love how you and Barbie are partnering together for this lovely community.
    Blessings to you both.

    • Thank you for the reminder that there should be no rushing in our quiet, sacred moments and more importantly we should come in thanksgiving first as we worship for the blessings that we are given. I love how Exodus was your source for the reminder and how you look for God in His word.
Love that you stop by and join us and love working side by side with Barbie! Hugs and blessings friend!

  12. What a beautiful message of humility! Yes, we are designed to live in community (church family), but what joy comes when we realize that God cannot be contained within a building or an institution. I loved your words about how God is found through the appropriate posture of our own hearts. Thanks for sharing your gift here… and for hosting the linkup!

    • Your words blessed me, Karen! It’s not easy but when we step away from ourselves and turn our focus to God, we are given such beautiful gifts of God’s presence throughout our days.

I love hosting The Weekend Brew because of the beautiful community that gathers here. Hugs and blessings!

  13. Isn’t that such a wonderful thing? We cannot escape God’s awesome presence. He is always with us…and will never leave us. 🙂

We often go on nature walks… one of my most favorite things to do. When we do… I don’t necessarily ‘think’ about God… but he draws me in to observing his creation with joy and it’s during those times my spirit is renewed and I am in greater awe of his glories.

May your day be richly blessed!

    • Diane- I’m so glad you are here. It sounds like we share a love of nature walks. The beauty as well as the peace that surround me on these walks usually turns into a beautiful time of worship. What a blessing!

Enjoy God’s presence this weekend and as you begin your week! 🙂

  14. Mary, wonderful thoughts. Like you, I have found communion with God anywhere I take time to acknowledge His Presence. In the years of driving my children around, I often called my van, “My Sanctuary”, because once I threw on my music & worshiped Him, He filled my van 🙂 We are truly a blessed people that we can come to our God 24/7. Glad to join you this morning!

    • I love the thought of my car also being a sanctuary. There is so much joy happening there when the worship music is on. Amen to being blessed. Let’s all open ourselves wide to God’s presence everyday.

Love that you joined the conversation this weekend! Blessings friend!
