7 Year Blogiversary & Birthday Month of Giveaways – Week 3

As a child growing up, when things were not going right or life became too overwhelming, I always wanted to hear my parents say “you’re going to be okay”. Those simple words had a way to make everything seem better because the two people I looked up to most, believed in me and helped me to believe in myself that it was going to be okay.

Holley Gerth quote

Last summer, I read Holley Gerth’s book, You’re Going to be Okay-Encouraging Truth Your Heart Needs to Hear Especially on the Hard Days, and once again I felt a reassurance and a safety net in her words as I soaked in truths that were written just for me. I read Holley’s book at a time when I needed to hear those words to get me through challenges in my life and pull me through to the other side. Even as I was going back through the book now, I could feel the same peace that wrapped its way around me during the first reading of the book.

Throughout the book, Holley provides chances for self-reflection laced with words of affirmation. As you begin examining your own heart and what is happening in your life, Holley’s words come alongside you throughout, reassuring you that “you’re going to be okay”. Holley affirms who we are in Christ and wraps up the book with these words:

  • God is with you
  • God is for you
  • God is in control
  • God makes you victorious
  • God provides for you
  • God has a plan for you
  • God is not holding out on you
  • God is always the same

I am thrilled to be able to offer one copy of Holley’s book, You’re Going to Be Okay, as part of Barbie’s 7 year Blogiversary celebration. Barbie told me she is also adding a $20 Amazon gift card to this giveaway!

As her partner every other weekend at The Weekend Brew, I have been blessed over and over by Barbie and her willingness to not only share her home with me, but her ability to encourage and mentor me as a writer. Please join me in celebrating Barbie!

Thanks Mary for joining the party! I wouldn’t even think of celebrating without you!

Mary, I could really relate to what you wrote. Every time there is a crisis in our family or marriage, the words I want to hear from my husband are simple. “It’s going to be alright – we’ve gotten through other problems, we’ll get through this one.” They are words of reassuring. And, to think that our Abba Father whispers them to us continually is almost incomprehensible. So blessed to be called by His Name and to have my name engraved in His hand.

Amen my friend! Stopping to hear the whispers of our Heavenly Father as He reassures us that everything is okay will fill us with the strength we need when we are uncertain. So glad to have you here today and for sharing your sweet words of affirmation.

I miss hearing my mother tells me things are going to be okay. Almost 8 years since I heard those words from her. And I have missed them from my late husband for over five years. My new husband doesn’t say them. It’s left a void but it’s a void that I’m learning to fill with prayer and God’s Word. His “It’s going to be okay” (and it is — I know because I’ve read the end of the Book!) is a rock-solid promise.

Shelby-I understand your words about your mom. She is always the first person I would run to for reassurance for everything and I have been missing that warm hug of comfort for a year and a half. So thankful that we have our Heavenly Father who is always whispering those words to us. Glad you are here today.

  8. Melissa says:

I definitely grew up as a mommy’s girl. She always knew just what to say or what to do to make everything better. As I grew older there were things that I had to keep from my mom. With no one to turn to and feeling alone, I turned to the bible and was comforted by the words and promises of our Heavenly Father. I hit rock bottom and went through all sorts of horrors and pain for the past year. Now I have found courage to fly half way around the world (lived in the Philippines for 14 years) and flew back to California 2 months ago to start a new life. It is absolutely scary to start over with just a bag full of clothes but my heart is filled with faith that He has big plans for me. That book is definitely something I could use right now.
