90 Minutes In Heaven – Book Review & Giveaway

When my grandmother was near death, I was sitting at her bedside just watching her and listening to what came out of her mouth. During those final hours, while suspended between life and death, my grandmother reached out for and called names of loved ones that had gone before her. At one point she talked about flowers and lady bugs. Even though she was struggling physically at this time, the smile on her face and the peace surrounding her made me know, beyond a shadow of doubt, that she had been given a glimpse of heaven.

I may never know what my grandmother saw, or who she spoke to during those final hours of her life, but her experiences drew me deeper into God’s presence as I reflected on how glorious heaven must be.

Although the experiences in this book are overwhelming and hard to grasp, I believe God is using this man’s heavenly testimony to bring multitudes to Him.

The movie, sponsored by Giving Films and based on the New York Times best seller, opened in theaters everywhere on September 11th. Take some time to go see it. I know you will be changed.

About the Book

Pastor Don Piper died January 18, 1989 when  a semi-tractor truck crushed his car. Declared dead by the first rescue workers to arrive on the scene, Don’s body lay under a tarp for the next 90 minutes. Don’s soul, meanwhile, was experiencing love, joy and life like he’d never known before. Don was in Heaven.

When another pastor’s prayer helped bring Don back to life, he became a living miracle! Yet this one miracle Don wished never happened. Heaven’s bliss was replaced by excruciating pain and emotional turmoil. With the support and prayers of his beloved Eva, their three kids, and friends near and far, Don clings to his faith in God and fights to regain a semblance of his previous life. The Piper family’s incredible true story of perseverance and overcoming the challenges of life – and death – will bring hope and encouragement to all who sees it.

My Review

This book presented many “Wow!” moments for me. One thing stood out to me, and that is the power of prayer. From the first individual who felt led to pray for Don while he was still dead, to countless friends, family and church goes around the world who stood in the place of prayer, each one played a vital role in helping this man overcome the unbearable. When Don’s strength had given out and he wished that God would take Him back, it was the prayers of believers that brought Him through.

I cannot imagine all that this man had to endure on this earth, after he was sent back from Heaven. We may never know why God allowed it to happen, but I do believe Don’s testimony of Heaven is being used to bring the multitudes to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

As Christians we are being blessed with many new movies that just came out, War Room and 90 Minutes in Heaven, as well as some that will be coming out before the end of the year. As much as I read, I have not read this book yet but know I will find it fascinating. Thank you for the story of your grandma. It made me think of my mom at the end. Thanks for the giveaway friend!

Thanks for sharing this review…it’s so difficult to wrap my mind around what it would be like to spend a few moments in Heaven and then have to return to life on earth as it is now. I don’t doubt that his testimony is touching lives for the Kingdom!
