Reflections on Destiny — 13 Comments

  1. I haven’t read a Denis Waitley quote in a very long time … this is a keeper! Pursuing what God has in front of us … right now … yes … that’s the thing … and … as we do that … in time … we will be pursuing that deepest destiny. LOVE THIS!

  2. I love your writing Barbie and the quote that you shared and so expounded on. Your writing brought this poem to mind. It was written by Corrie ten Boom
    Life is but a Weaving (The Tapestry Poem)

    My life is but a weaving
    Between my God and me.
    I cannot choose the colors
    He weaveth steadily.

    Oft’ times He weaveth sorrow;
    And I in foolish pride
    Forget He sees the upper
    And I the underside.

    Not ’til the loom is silent
    And the shuttles cease to fly
    Will God unroll the canvas
    And reveal the reason why.

    The dark threads are as needful
    In the weaver’s skillful hand
    As the threads of gold and silver
    In the pattern He has planned

    He knows, He loves, He cares;
    Nothing this truth can dim.
    He gives the very best to those
    Who leave the choice to Him.

  3. I love this quote and I wholeheartedly believe it be true! I think we all can be too hard on ourselves at times when we feel like there is something bigger out there for us. Sometimes we are just to do the best we can, right where we are…He will usually let us know in one way or another if that isn’t the case. Great post, Barbie!

  4. I think I know what my destiny is for this season in my life as a mother. My problem is I feel inadequate and don’t know if I’m “doing enough”, or “doing it well”. I want to be excellent for Him. So I can’t look too far into the future or I overwhelm and scare myself. Day by day, prayer. I know He is faithful and will meet me exactly where I am and you too, Friend!

    • I’m not sure I’ve figured out this next season. I’ve been confused, disheartened, challenged in my faith. But I know that God has so much beauty for me to uncover just where I am. I am leaning in, trusting that He will reveal my purpose in this next season.

  5. There’s a quote from Frederick Buechner singing itself through my heart as I read your words:
    “If you beat a path to God long enough, He will meet you on the path you have beaten, bearing the gift of Himself.”
    I love those words because it reminds me of the importance of just showing up, faithfully — meeting with Him, even if I’m only reading words and wondering what they mean. He always shows up and His timing is perfect.
    Blessings, Barbie!

  6. “I think sometimes I look too hard for the deeper, bigger “will of God” in my life.” When I read this, I realized how much I do this, too. You have reminded me to bloom where I am planted with whatever God has given me at the moment instead of always thinking I’m falling short of something bigger God has in mind. Thank you, Barbie.

    • It’s hard sometimes to plant our feet and bloom where we are. We want the bigger picture, to see further. Thankful this post touched you and that you will allow yourself to bloom right where you are.
