We are in the final week before Christmas. It’s been a busy few weeks and appears to get busier for me as the days go on. No matter how much I try to rest and allow God’s peace to overwhelm me, I find myself exhausted, worried and stressed out.
Not a good way to welcome the birth of our Lord and Savior, huh?
I could give you every excuse as to why I’m feeling the way I do, but really, the only person I have to blame for not remaining in a state of rest and peace is myself. Jesus, He is the Prince of Peace. And the Good Shepherd, He promised to make me lie down in green pastures. I imagine those green pastures as a place of peace and rest, but this week I’m restless because I’m ignoring the call to come to Jesus as I just keep going, going, going.
I do believe that in order for me to remain in His peace, I must partner with the Prince of Peace and take hold of this promise that has been freely given to me. Easier said than done, right?
In this last week of Advent, I am appalled at the state of my heart as I frantically try to finish Christmas shopping on a limited budget, try to refrain from beating myself up for the money I’ve already spent, worry about disappointing others with my gift giving, etc. It saddens me to think that Christ is left buried somewhere beneath the surface of my chaos.
Jesus, He is the Prince of Peace. He came to bring peace not only to a troubled world, but to you and me. So today I’m making a decision. I am going to partner with the Prince of Peace and lay hold of the free gift that is mine for the taking. Only then will I be able to avoid giving in to the chaos that swirls around me.Today I am choosing to partner with the Prince of Peace and avoid giving in to chaos. #glimpsesofhisbeauty Click To Tweet
So how, exactly, am I going to do this?
First, I must breathe.
It’s so important to breathe Him in, every moment of every day. It’s the very breathe of God in me that will calm my weary and worried soul.
Next, I must let go.
I admit that there is too much going on in my life right now, even without Christmas. I have to let go of some things and not allow myself to be guilty over it. We were not made to do it all, but we were made to do all that we do with a heart filled with peace. We weren't made to do it all, but we were made to do all with a heart filled with peace. #glimpsesofhisbeauty Click To Tweet
Lastly, I must rest.
My mind is swirling, my body is tired and my emotions are all over the place. The Prince of Peace cannot inhabit a soul such as this. So I must be still, lie down and rest. When my heart is at rest, peace will reside. There is a line in a song my daughter sings with her husband that reads, “I find rest in the peace you’ve given freely.” That is so true!I find rest in the peace you've given freely. #glimpsesofhisbeauty Click To Tweet
