The Lord has blessed me with a beautiful life. I have an amazing husband, beautiful children, a job I love and so many things to be thankful for. Lately though, I’ve caught myself yearning after so many other things. I day dream about what life might have been like if my husband wasn’t disabled and still worked his good paying, full time job. I wonder what our ministry life would be like if I was still working at the church and heavily involved in ministry. I think about the home we once owned and miss it, especially in this current economy.
Even though life has taken us through so many twists and turns, and we’ve had to learn to accept and embrace the here and now, I still miss certain aspects of a life that once was. I think we all can end up in this place of desiring and yearning after things that aren’t a part of God’s current plan for our lives if we aren’t careful. Sometimes, if I’m too active on social media, I can find myself wanting what others have – the new car, the new house, the perfect job, the dotting husband. But then I close the computer and step away and realize that I have everything I need here and now.
The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. (Psalm 23:1)
I’m not sure this scripture fits perfectly with what I’ve been reflecting on over the last couple of days, but it’s what I’ve been reminding myself of, especially today — The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. And in the same breath I am reminded that “no good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.” I serve a good God, and He has given me a beautiful life. It’s often beauty found buried beneath the rubble of a life that once was. It’s not always noticeable at first, but if I keep looking the beauty will emerge.
I’m still on a journey of looking for beauty among the mundane. How about you?
And now I continue to list the beauty that I’m finding in my every day life.
441. Early morning movies.
442. Roses and carnations filling vases in my home.
443. A clean mini van.
444. The ability to laugh at my own mistakes.
445. He makes all things beautiful.
446. Finding comfortable sandals that fit my wide feet.
447. Time spent with mom (eating, shopping & Starbucks!)
448. Celebrating my beautiful daughter at her baby shower (grandson #2 is coming!)
449. A beautiful mother’s day surrounded by my husband and children.
450. I am blessed and highly favored.
