God’s Extravagant Love // Glimpses Link Up

God’s love is extravagant. He spares no expense to show His affection to His children. The most extravagant display of love ever shown was Christ’s death on the cross.

Just today, I was reminded again of the extravagant way God shows His love. My youngest daughter was given a huge blessing. It was not on her grid, nor was it on ours. There was no reason we could think of for her to be the recipient of such an extravagant gift, but that is the awe and wonder of God. This is how God reminds us of His love. I reflected back on the day when someone bought us a Christmas tree, just because. Or the check we received in the mail for more than our rent, from someone we’ve never met.

It’s hard to miss the extravagant, “spare no expense” ways that God shows His love to us. But what about the more subtle, daily ways that God reminds us of His love? I’ve been on a journey of giving thanks for the simple, and I share my list every Monday here on the blog. Most of the things I list here are not considered extravagant gifts, but they are simple reminders that God is present in my life and delights to bring blessing.

Like the time I was missing my grandmother and God sent a cluster of butterflies to comfort me.
Or the time that I lost a piece of jewelry for weeks only to find it in the most ordinary place.
Or the time a former co-worker delivered flowers to my door step to say thank you for a job well done.

Even though these are not considered big blessings, they are still reminders of God’s extravagant love for us. You see, it’s not the size of the gift, but the heart of the giver. And God has a great big heart of love for His children. His love is extravagant and He displays it in both small and large ways.

I never want to forget about God’s extravagant love. How about you? How is God showing you His extravagant love today?

And now I continue to list the beauty that I’m finding in my every day life.

I love how God shows us his love in extravagant ways and in the little things. I love your practice of keeping track of the blessings. I’ve been doing this too in a journal and it is so encouraging to remember the many ways God shows us his love!

    1. Barbie says:

It really does help to keep it in front of you, the many blessings. Have a blessed week.

  2. Bev @ Walking Well With God says:

    Barbie,
I love how God is not stingy with His lovingkindness – He is truly extravagant. As I’ve been recuperating, I’ve seen His love in everything from how patient and caring my husband is to me to watching a colorful array of birds come to dine at the birdfeeder while I’m resting. His extravagance is all around us if we just open our eyes and look for it!!
    Blessings,
    Bev xx

I’m coming off a weekend of extravagant love — all a gift from God, and it’s such a blessing to have born witness to my son’s happiness at his wedding. Surrounded by family and friends, the entire event was crowned with joy!

    1. Barbie says:

Congratulations on your son’s wedding. Are there pictures on social media? I’m not sure I saw any.

    1. Barbie says:

It takes practice for sure. So thankful to have you here each week.

  4. Natalie says:

Isn’t a joy to celebrate with those treasured young men and women this time of year? I count it a real blessing. And the fact that the school year is winding down? That is something beautiful to celebrate every spring, as its beginning again in the fall.

    1. Barbie says:

I am grateful for the end of another school year. Homeschooling while working full time is hard work. I believe the Lord is giving me a reprieve next year while we enroll our son at a charter school to get him some assistance we can’t provide. Another new season for me.

  5. Lisa notes says:

This reminds me of one of my all-time favorite songs, “Your Love Is Extravagant.”

“Spread wide in the arms of Christ is the love that covers sin
No greater love have I ever known You considered me a friend
    Capture my heart again”

So grateful for this kind of love!

    1. Barbie says:

You know Lisa, I had that very song going through my head the entire time I was writing this post! Have a blessed week.

  6. Amy Jung says:

Baby Feet would be on my list too if I had access to them this week!!!

    1. Barbie says:

I just love them. Thanks for stopping by Amy!

  7. Donna Reidland says:

Barbie, it’s true, His extravagant love is seen everywhere. I’m thankful this week for seeing a granddaughter graduate from homeschool, for a celebratory lunch with family and friends, for a phone call from a daughter, for having my mother with me, and so much more. Thanks to you for hosting and reminding us to look for His love!

    1. Barbie says:

Thank you for sharing your blessings Donna. God is good!

  8. Ruth @ plantedbylivingwater says:

My husband took us all out for ice cream this evening at a real ice cream shop! It’s not something we do very often. None of us asked for it. He offered freely. God gave us the perfect weather to sit outside and eat ice cream (watermelon sherbet for me). 🙂

    1. Barbie says:

What a lovely, simple gift. So thankful for time with family. Thanks for sharing Ruth!

  9. Mary Geisen says:

So thankful my words helped to redirect your thoughts Mary! Love you!

Yes, I love that word “extravagant” when it comes to describing our Lord. He truly does show us His love in so many ways. Thank you for being one of those ways for me this week–through the giveaway here! I can’t wait to share the new kwikstix with my Grandkids! Blessings to you!

    1. Barbie says:

You’ll have to post a photo and tag me BettieG. I know they will enjoy them as much as my grandson has.
