My 5 Minute Fridays

Unexpected Vacation // Five Minute Friday

I took a vacation from blogging. It wasn’t intentional, but it was necessary.  I’ve spent my evenings interacting with family, decluttering, reading free books on my Kindle, binge watching shows on Hulu and Netflix and just enjoying the feeling of not having to write. After all, when the writing becomes work, it’s time to step away to refocus.

Vacation = the action of leaving something one previously occupied.

Although in many ways it was a restful time away, there is an ongoing, internal struggle in my soul and I’m fighting to get myself back to a place of normalcy, both in the blogging world and in my personal life. In the returning to this place, things will be changing. I’ve already changed the look here (do you like it?), and the tag line (what do you think?), and much of my writings, although still spiritually focused, will consist more of the day to day, lifestyle format. I’m making no promises as to content or regularity, only that I am ready to return. I’m starting out slow and we will see where it goes. The one thing that keeps me coming back is all of you. Thank you so much for your kind comments and notes during my absence. You’re presence here is a gift.

Speaking of vacations, my husband and I have been gifted a week’s timeshare in Ramona, CA coming up in August to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. It has been many, many years since we have been able to afford a week’s vacation. We are overcome with gratitude for this gift.  We have a lot of work to do in our marriage and I am hopeful that this time away will allow for a reconnect on all levels. One of the things I am most looking forward to on our vacation is meeting my wonderful blog friend, supporter, encourager and client, Diana Rockwell. Oh the fun we will have! I will be sending my husband away to golf while I enjoy a day with this treasured friend.

What about you? Have you taken a vacation recently? I’d love to hear about it.

Blessed to join the Five Minute Friday community this week.

I so enjoyed your post! This is my first time reading your blog, so I wonder how long you stepped away from it? I can see how that would be restful and necessary in different seasons. Because I now live where we used to vacation, I do feel like I take mini-vacations more often! A walk on the beach or just sitting there reading a book for an hour feeds my need for rest. Blessings on your anniversary and time together in CA! Your FMF neighbor #43

Hi Beth! Thank you for stopping by. This time I was away about 3 months, but over the last year or so I’ve been in and out. I just celebrated 10 years of blogging and hope to be more regular again soon. Glad to have met you!

Good to see you again! How wonderful of the Lord to provide for that upcoming vacation. Hope you have a great time! We have had days off at home but have not been able to go anywhere for five years, since we brought my m-i-l to live in our home. I don’t mind – I’m a homebody – but my husband would love to travel. For now we just enjoy a few hours at a time away locally, especially when all the kids are here. We have a wonderful caregiver who comes in a few hours a day.

So good to see you here Barbara. It’s hard to get away, especially when we are caring for others. My mother was just diagnosed with lung cancer, and she already is in the beginning stages of dementia. My sister is her main care giver and I try to relief her as much as I can. Have a blessed week.

Hi Jolene. Thanks for stopping by. I’m a California native, born and raised and have lived here all my life. We just never get to the southern part so we are really looking forward to our trip. I hope you will stop by again.

Hi Amanda. So nice to meet you. I would love to chat sometime. I love my online community; they have become some of my greatest encouragers. I see you are a home school mom. I homeschooled my youngest two while working full time until this year. My youngest son is now in a public school charter and doing very well. Looking forward to reading your blog.

What fun that you get to meet Diana! Also, what a blessing to have a week away with your hubby :). My vacation is wearing me out, now that my grandson has arrived! The little tornado keeps me on my toes every hour that he’s awake–but what an incredible blessing. Your site looks lovely, and I like your new name and tagline :).

Thanks so much for stopping by Anita!
