On Being Pruned

I want to personally thank Barbie for giving me this incredible opportunity in being a little part of the beautiful work that she is doing on her inspiring blog.
In my late teens, I fell in love with John 15. It was a chapter full of so much wisdom, promises of more and direction. I’m in my 30’s and I still swoon when reading this chapter. A few weeks ago I had it upon my heart to illustrate John 15:2. It came out of nowhere and I couldn’t shake the idea until I made the illustration. When making this piece I knew it was for someone who would need it in their season of pruning. It never occurred to me that that someone was going to be me!
Last weekend my husband and I spent a night on Whidbey Island, just the two of us. We spent our trip talking. We talked about God, our family values, goals and what we saw for our future. As God directed our conversation, I later found out that He was pruning me through our talk. I realized I need to cut back on some of the thing I’ve picked up and my branches needed to be pruned. I didn’t realize how most of my time and energy was being spent on the many branches of my career, but the branches with fruit on them (like my marriage and my son) were getting very little. When reading John 15:2 it says that God takes away the branches that bear no fruit and prunes the ones that bear fruit so that more fruit may grow.
What branches need to be cut back and pruned in your life?
