I Survived My First Year Of Homeschooling! — 21 Comments

  1. I cannot tell you how glad I am to hear that someone is successful at homeschooling while working. It makes me feel better about my decision to do that this upcoming year.

  2. Congrats Barbie! That is a huge deal. We’re just wrapping up our first year as well (sort of, I’ll still be homeschooling the little ones through summer) so I can definitely relate. Enjoy some time off!

    • Thank you Zohary! I almost have all of my curriculum for next year chosen, bought or borrowed, so I plan to enjoy my summer!

  3. Oh Barbie! I was going to write a post when we finish…we are still working through! I love you and appreciate your honesty. We are both Homeschooling our 7th grade girls, and it encourages me once in awhile to think of you across the country and me here, yet both learning as we go! Thank you for this post. I wish I could sit and have coffee with you! Meanwhile, I will have to write my concluding post. Your words resonate and are good for me to hear as well… still trying to find the balance, but so looking forward to a break, myself!

    • Dawn, I am proud of you for listening to the Holy Spirit, to being obedient to what He’s called you to do. The year was more challenging than I had anticipated, but I am believing God for a wonderful school year for 8th grade. I’m almost done buying curriculum! So thankful Summer is here!

    • Ha! That’s probably on the days when I tossed the books out the window and said forget it, no school today! 🙂

  4. Congrats on surviving your first year!! LOL! You learned *early* in the game what we all do so, good job mom! **SO** Glad you are homeschooling even with a full time job! That is awesome!

  5. What a wonderful look back at your year! I am so happy to have “met” you just recently at the end of this year, and I can’t wait for us both to tackle the eighth grade next year. You are so right – the heart of our daughters and a passion for the Lord are what matters MOST!

  6. This is so encouraging to me … homeschooling for most of the last 11 years, I’ve experienced everything you talked about. Thanks for sharing this from your heart and the reality of the homeschool experience for many of us. Mary

  7. Congratulations on completing your first year of homeschooling Barbie! That is a BIG accomplishment! It sounds like you made the sacrifice because you decided it was “best for your daughter”, and so even though you had a full time job…you took on another full time job for the sake of your child! Bravo! I wish more parents would be so brave!

I pray that next year will get easier, and that your daughter will be greatly blessed by all of your efforts…and that she will see the great love for her that motivates you!

    Love, Linda
