I stood there, in the shrinking by the minute space, and simply stared. Paralyzed. Embarrassed. Frustrated.

To my left stacks of books, purses and shoes. In front of me laundry baskets crammed full with dirty clothes. To my right a cluster of empty unzipped suitcases. Behind them more clothes.

Where do I begin? Can I even make a dent? There’s so much stuff!

Clutter is my toughest enemy lately. It steals my hours and robs my sense of peace. As a mother who teaches four children at home, and a gal who stockpiles curriculum, papers and magazines, I quickly succumb to distress and disappointment.

We’re sitting around the table with heaping servings of homemade mac and cheese and a garden salad spilling over the porcelain white serving bowl. I just “banned” ketchup as the side dish because it contains one teaspoon of sugar for every tablespoon they squeeze out. It doesn’t go over very well and grumbles become the dominant table talk.

It’s been said that we have never consumed so much sugar and we’re addicted.

Tears start flowing from the youngest. The oldest says she wishes I’d quit reading about health stuff and all the labels. The son says he wants his ketchup. The

Choosing For This Season,

It started as I drove to meet a friend for lunch one day last fall. I can’t tell you the exact words, but I sensed God telling me to spend more time focused at home and on my daughter. Honestly, I didn’t really get it. My life pretty much revolves around my family, home, and work, so I didn’t know what He was referring to, but it was clearly from Him.

I didn’t feel as if there was something specific I was supposed to do… that would have been easier—something I could check off a list. No, instead, it was more of a feeling or reminder to let other things go and focus on the moment.

Jesus knows our needs and He knows when to send us out, when to call us back and when to give us rest.  I have been going through a study with a friend of mine called, “A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23.”  The study came to us in such a serendipitous way that we just knew it was from the Lord.  We found an unrelated, but great companion study called, “The 23rd Psalm, the Lord Our Shepherd.”  These two studies have been leading me to look with new eyes at a very familiar section of Scripture.  As Christians, we can get so inoculated
